description

Mediums: gouache, ink, pencil, varnish, silver, paper.
Location: The State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow (Russia).

Of the ten abstract compositions called “figurines” created by El Lissitzky, this one is the most dynamic and reminds a person more than others. The artist believed that self-propelled robots should play the roles in such an avant-garde opera play as Victory over the Sun. The figure of the traveler with something like a black wheel instead of one leg is ready to take off along the trajectory of the steep diagonal set by the author of the picture. El Lissitzky emphasized the character’s lightness with silver paint applied to some details. The designs proposed by the artist were not implemented but became the topic for a cycle of works of particular value in Constructivism.
