Beat the whites with a red wedge

author

El Lissitzky

description

Mediums: Lithography paper.
Location: The print of 1966 is in the Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven (Netherlands).

The most famous work of El Lissitzky, often reproduced in different countries of the world, was created in the genre of poster. Its propaganda essence is usually considered in the context of the era; everyone invariably notes its artistic merits, including compositional and semantic. The artist masterfully represented empty parts and those with objects and thought out the inscription that became an integral part of the composition in colour schemes. The word “white” on the black background is exactly white, while the word “beat” is red. The poster was first published in Vitebsk – a copy of the first print, the circulation of which has not been defined, is at the Russian State Library.
