El Lissitzky

description

Mediums: oil, ink, paper.
Location: Museum of Modern Art of New York (the USA).

Lissitzky’s design work was the cover of Ben Zion Raskin’s book, “Four Billy Goats”, published in Warsaw in 1922. The author previously actively used Jewish national themes and symbols in his illustrative creations. In this painting built on the principles of Suprematism and Constructivism, he applied the Hebrew inscription in combination with Roman and Arabic numbers. Also, four red lines and four black dots indicate the quantitative part of the name. The red circle in the symbolism of El Lissitzky means the earth or the sun.
