The Prodigal Son

author

Giorgio de Chirico

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Gallery of Modern Art (Milan, Italy).

Chirico originally presented the famous biblical plot used by the greatest artists in their work. Father and son are figures that are completely different in their texture and meaning, strangely connected in a single metaphysical space, outside of time and space. The work, which combines classic and modern, past and future, is autobiographical for the artist. The embrace of the main characters symbolizes his return to the roots, and perhaps reconciliation with himself.
