author

Giorgio de Chirico

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: private collection.

The work has several variants created in 1917-1918 and 1925 and is differing in minor details. Strange figures, located in the foreground, have the bodies of statues and the heads of tailor mannequins, and the head of one of the figures, apparently, has fallen off and is on the floor, at its feet. In the background is the architecture of the Italian city of Ferrara, where the artist had a family estate, and where he met his friend and associate Carlo Carra. The atmosphere of the picture is extremely mysterious and incomprehensible, and the perspective construction in it is broken, which is typical for the author.
