description

The San Diego Museum of Modern Art (USA).

Canvas, oil.

In this work, Ellsworth Kelly tried to convey the tension that exists between the figure and the background on which it is located. Despite its flat forms, the composition is very dynamic. Bold blue and red shades placed on the virulent green background of the canvas cause a sensation of vibration and movement, which is enhanced by the sufficiently large size of the canvas. The painting is a transitional stage between the compilation of many colour panels and more voluminous multilayer works by Kelly, in which only a few figures are placed on a contrasting background.
