Briefly about the painting:

The work that “the father of surrealism” Andre Breton cited as an illustration in his article “Le Surréalisme en 1947” (Paris) has a narrative character. Drama is developing rapidly – a young man, in whose head the ideas of nationalism came, is rapidly leaving the ruins. The artist used reminiscences from antiquity – the lady in red resembles a statue. The person in a white gown remains mysterious. Realistic characters resemble European painting of the past centuries, and the semantic load refers, in particular, to the works of famous French Symbolist Gustav Moreau.
