Prairie

author

Anthony Caro

description

Mediums: steel.
Location: private collection.

One of Caro’s famous masterpieces; «Prairie” is interpreted by many critics as a landscape painted from a bird’s-eye view. Horizontally located planes create several levels above the surface, while asymmetric diagonal lines convey a sense of movement. From some angles, when the elements supporting the central steel sheet are not visible, it seems that it just soars in the air. Like many other works of Caro, the sculpture is open to the environment; it does not have a clear beginning and end, allowing you to continue its lines to infinity.
