Early One Morning

author

Anthony Caro

description

Mediums: steel and aluminum.
Location: Tate Modern Gallery (London, the UK).

One of the most famous, complex and bold works of Anthony Caro. Painted in the bright red colour of the morning dawn, the sculpture seems to be made of random components that are not related to each other, but, upon closer examination, make up a surprisingly harmonious and balanced composition. All elements of the sculpture are located relative to the horizontal axis in such a way that they create various dynamic combinations that expand and capture the surrounding space when viewed from different points of view. According to the author, the individual elements of the work do not constitute anything interesting until they unite into one sculpture in the imagination of the viewer.
