Mechanical landscape

author

Luigi Colombo (Phillia)

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The National Gallery of Modern Art (Rome, Italy).

This city landscape is made in an extremely simplified form, where houses, factory chimneys and even trees are represented in the form of strictly defined geometric figures, flooded with a uniform colour. This is one of the first mature works of Phillia, in which the influence of his friend and associate Enrico Prampolini is noticeable. However, here, you can notice some features of the individual style of the author. For example, he depicted the Sun in the form of a bright red fiery sphere emitting intense radiance. A similar image of the Sun is found in many later works of the artist and occupies a central place in some of them.
