Lovers in the village

author

Frits van den Berghe

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Municipal Museum in Bruges (Belgium).

Canvas, oil.
The painting was created in the style of expressionism with the use of the techniques of this style, as well as primitive methods of depicting nature. Four large figures, plump rural beauties and their gentlemen, occupy almost the entire space of the canvas. They are enthusiastically listening to the harmonist, whose inspirational face is almost hidden behind the thick trunks of trees and architecture, which are depicted as conditional scenery. The mood of love is conveyed not only by the facial expressions of the characters but also by the general warm gamut of colors, the mutual arrangement of the figures.
