description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Brera Gallery (Milan, Italy).

The painting was created in a metaphysical style, in which the artist worked in the first post-war years. Pictures of this style are characterized by motionless objects, strange combinations of things placed in empty interiors, and a gloomy atmosphere, which was no doubt close to the spirit of the artist’s painting. The plot of the work contains a particular riddle. Who is this mannequin-like woman in a dark room, why does she point to a chandelier, and what is this strange pyramid on the table? The canvas gives no answers to these questions, leaving a feeling of understatement and a mystery.
