Buildings with a white horse

author

Mario Sironi

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: private collection.

White horses often appeared on canvases of Mario Sironi. This incredibly light and pure image contrasts with the surrounding deserted landscape, gray and dull. The translucent ghostly figure of a man leading the beautiful white horse seems to dissolve in the city fog, and the picture itself is permeated with an atmosphere of sadness and longing for something beautiful, but irretrievably lost. Perhaps the author wanted to express the sorrow of the human soul, which turned out to be useless and utterly superfluous among stonewalls and metal machines.
