A Young Woman

author

Sergey Konenkov

description

Mediums: marble.
Location: the State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow (Russia).

The work belongs to the early Greek cycle of the sculptor’s works and is generally made according to the canons of ancient sculpture and taking into account cultural and historical realities (without a head and hands). At the same time, the thin figure of a young girl was carved by a sculptor from a block of marble, some of which remained almost untreated (a technique proposed by French master O. Rodin). Due to this, the model’s body not intended for circular inspection looks exceptionally smooth, separating from the rough surfaces of the background resiliently and boldly.
