Sergey Konenkov

description

Mediums: marble.
Location: the State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow (Russia).

The antique theme in the work of Konenkov appeared back in 1906 with the famous work “Nika”. After a stay in Greece and Egypt in 1912, he created original semi-allegories — half-portraits in marble, including “Eos” and “Bark”. They were created under the influence of travel, and this influence resulted in a sharply increased interest of the artist in the depiction of a naked body. He carved a wonderful lying statue of a sleeping girl. The compositional work “Awakening” also made of marble in 1917 is considered to be paired to it.
