Large Upright Internal/External Form

author

Henry Spencer Moore

description

Mediums: bronze.
Location: Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (London, UK).

In the late period of his career, the artist was interested in a combination of internal and external forms of objects. The sculpture, resembling a half-opened bud of a tree, has a soft, rounded shape, under the smooth shell of which you can see what is inside. This sculpture reflects the interaction of abstract and figurative forms in Moore’s work. The sculpture based on the fact that one form conceals another in itself is associated with a pregnant woman, who protects her child with the warmth of her body.
