Large Reclining Figure

author

Henry Spencer Moore

description

Mediums: gypsum.
Location: The Fitzwilliam Museum (Cambridge, UK).

The recumbent sculpture shows a striking harmony of lines and a brief combination of forms in which nothing is superfluous. It shows the evolution of the artistic style of Henry Moore, his path from a fascination with the art of the ancient Indians, the mysteriousness of Surrealism and the harmony of constructivist forms, to his bright individual style. The snow-white statue decorating the park in Cambridge was originally small in size and later was cast in bronze. In 1984, an enlarged version was created for a Chinese financial company in Singapore. The large figure has a length of about 9 meters, which makes it the most massive sculpture created by Moore.
