The artist had a strange attitude to the theme of the family. His paintings on motherhood are depressive. Perhaps, this is due to the fact that Schiele was on bad terms with his mother from childhood. A whole series of his works was named “Dead Mother”. On these canvases a woman is either indifferent to her child, or represents some kind of threat to him.
