author

Egon Schiele

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: Belvedere Gallery, Vienna, Austria.

The theme of horror and death is one of the main leitmotifs of the artist’s painting. He dedicated this work to his lover Wally. Initially, Schiele wanted to call the picture “Man and Woman.” However, after the death of his mistress, he changed the name to “Death and a girl”. Here, man-death is the image of the artist himself.
