description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: National Art Museum of Ukraine (Kyiv).

The painting corresponds to its “hot” name due to its colours and contains the attributes of the tropics – palm and sea. Two naked Japanese ladies are depicted with traditional hairstyles and a recognizable face type. The bright yellow bodies composed of separate figures allow you to see back and front views of one character at the same time. The background, as the principles of cubism suggest, is the continuance of the depicted objects; however, it contrasts with them in the painting. Thanks to this method, the women are not lost among the elements of their environment but act as distinct dominants of the canvas.
