Yoko Ono took the idea for her “Wish Tree” from Buddhist temples, where there is a tradition to write down dreams and hang them on tree branches. As in many of her works, the American artist, Japanese by birth, offers materials and instructions, and the performance is left to the viewer. This symbolic action allows people to express their desires easily and naturally and possibly realize their real goals in life. Ono collects the written wishes takes them to Iceland, where she solemnly buries them near the symbolic “Peace Tower”.
