Half the room

author

Yoko Ono

description

Furniture cut in half, wood.

In the installation, the artist halved all the objects inside the room (chairs, tables, paintings, carpets), thus conveying her feelings after breaking up with Anthony Cox. This strange composition invariably surprises the viewer and evokes feelings of loss, destruction and emptiness. Yoko Ono has repeatedly used this idea in various installations, ranging from small podiums with several cut objects to a full-fledged room with half a large bed, on which there are half a pillow and half a blanket. The largest of these rooms was called the Half Spring Hall and was shown at the Lisson Gallery in London in 1968.
