Claes Oldenburg

description

The Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao, Spain.

Not all of Oldenburg’s creations are motionless statues that adorn city parks and squares. Some works have quite practical applications, for example, a boat made in the form of a Swiss folding knife. When it was launched in one of the canals of Venice, the construction made a splash among residents and tourists: everyone wanted to participate in this kind of “happening” and personally row the miracle boats. The length of the vessel with open blades was more than 25 meters and, in addition to oars, it is equipped with a real outboard motor.
