description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Tate Modern Gallery, London (the UK).

This two-meter canvas is a nostalgic reconstruction of an elderly artist of those events that took place almost half a century ago. Writers and vorticists often gathered at London restaurants. The painting represents K. Hamilton, E. Pound, the author of the picture, W. Lewis, F. Etchells, E. Wadsworth; at the door, he depicted both women who were members of the movement – Jessica Dismorr and Helen Saunders, as well as Shtulik, the owner of the restaurant, and waiter Joe. Interestingly, the “BLAST” magazine was not in the hands of its chief editor, Lewis – perhaps that was due to the painter’s negative attitude to the leader, who, according to Roberts, exaggerated his leading role in the movement. Having chosen the restaurant as the venue, Roberts confirmed his statement that French culinary and Vorticism are inextricably linked.
