author

Уильям Патрик Робертс

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Tate Modern Gallery, London (the UK).

In the late period of his work, the master used plots for his multi-figured compositions from the life of the area of London where he had lived since the late forties. In the area, there is Regent Park with a small pond, where the townspeople like to spend Sundays and holidays. Like other paintings of this period, this one was created without observing the perspective; that is why people sitting and standing on the shore, boats on the lake with rowers and sailboats on the horizon seem to be one pyramid. The figures and faces are depicted in the peculiar Roberts’ manner close to cubism but without decomposition into fragments and using smoother geometric shapes.
