The Infinity Observer

author

Ernst Fuchs

description

Mediums: oil, wood, tempera.
Location: private collection.

The work of the mature period differs from other paintings of the author by the large-scale image without the detalisation and multifigureness characteristic of Fuchs. This is just a face with distinguishing features dressed in something resembling a spacesuit and illuminated by an unearthly light falling on the right. The idea of the plot is transparent and expressed in the name; the infinity is expressed with the help of repetitive reflections in the eyes of the observer moving away from the viewer. An interesting semantic method is the similarity of the relief of the illuminated side of the face with the desert landscape.
