author

Ernst Fuchs

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Museum of Ernst Fuchs, Vienna (Austria).

The vertically built composition offers the viewer a fantastic world of mythology. The cliff stretching higher than the clouds (a horseman with a spear comes near by them) is shown in a cut and is inhabited by beautiful women. Two Renaissance graces are depicted realistically; the third and the smallest one is veiled – it looks like a horse. The fantastic work attracts you with the variety of carefully depicted decorative details and impresses you with the complex dynamics of the movements of the horseman and knight and his rearing up and flying horse.
