The Cradle

author

Zdzisław Beksiński

description

Mediums: oil, wood.
Location: The collection of P. Dmokhovsky (France).

Briefly about the painting:

One of those works that, according to its owner, is mostly admired by the audience. This painting became the most special one at the first exhibition in “Valama”; its visual images were used by director Dziworski, who ordered to make an identical cradle of wood. In the film, it swayed and creaked in the light of lightning strikes. It might look exciting, but it was of a pretty crappy taste. Beksinski really considered that a bad taste and swore that he would always hate the movie. The inscription on the wall “In hoc signo vinces” looks significant, as well as the fact that there is a nest on the crucifix that flocks of birds fly to.
