Blind man with a cane

Zdzisław Beksiński

description

Mediums: fiberboard, oil.
Location: private collection.

Briefly about the painting:

From the beginning of the 1970s, Beksinski’s art started changing: decaying or mutilated bodies appear on his canvases less often. Instead of that, large mysterious landscapes appear, full of strange buildings and ruins covered with grass, as well as philosophical plots. Art experts wrote about such changes mentioning “persiflage,” a special style game. The artist used recognizable objects, but endowed them with a sound that is not everyday – for example, the sun in this composition is more like a volcano furiously spitting lava, rather than the real sun. The characters, a blind old man and a strange guide dog resembling a wolf, are paired and arranged in such a way that could only exist in the world of dreams.
