Alexander Calder

description

Mediums: steel plates.
Location: Spoleto (Italy).

The sculpture was designed and created for the city of Spoleto in Italy and is the only monumental sculpture of Calder in the country. The artist conducted a long correspondence with the mayor of the city about how the work will look and where exactly it needs to be located. Made in the form of a stable, the sculpture took its place in the square of the Spoleto railway station and became its peculiar symbol. The name of the composition made of 11 mm steel comes from the name of the Lombard king, whose image Calder saw on an old tapestry in the Spoleto Hotel.
