A son of a peasant, Sergey Konenkov, was inspired by tales he heard in childhood and loved working with wood during his long creative career. Sculptor Anna Golubkina noted that wood became “so familiar to him that he does not work, but only releases what is enclosed in it”. The pagan god is depicted with hyperbolized huge hands, with horns made of natural material, and his clothes and attributes are inlaid with multi-coloured stones (the author’s innovation). The Art Nouveau sculpture attracts attention with a stern gaze of large eyes and a soft half-smile hidden in a thick beard.
