The Stoneborer

author

Sergey Konenkov

description

Mediums: bronze.
Location: The State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow (Russia).

The work created by the young master at the turn of the century is one of the brightest works in Russian sculpture. The author praised hard work, using a dynamic and expressive composition. The head and hands of the statue were worked out most thoroughly; this allows you to feel the inner mood of a person who was not broken by deprivation and hard work. Craftsman Ivan Kuprin posed for the sculptor – the wrinkles on his thin face, his thick eyebrows and a curly beard made a great impression on the creator. The statue was famous and was awarded the Academy award, but the simple realism of the sculpture also impresses the modern viewer. The author gave a plaster copy of this sculpture to the historical and art museum of Roslavl – the city where he studied at the gymnasium.
