description

Private collection.

Collage of different materials.

The work is a collage of real objects and two-dimensional pictorial images. In the left part of the work, the artist placed a kitchen cabinet that can be opened and closed, as well as a part of a real sink above which an electric light is ignited. In the other part, he placed flat-drawn objects depicting various drinks and food. Above the food is a painting by Piet Mondrian, an artist whom Tom Wesselmann respected; he enjoyed incorporating fragments of paintings by Mondrian into some of his works. The unification of real objects, drawings and reproductions of the work of art demonstrates how the everyday and the fictional, high and banal are combined in everyday life.
