description

Located at Cheonggyecheon Stream, Seoul, South Korea.

Steel, aluminum, polyurethane acrylic enamel.

The idea of creating this sculpture belongs to the wife and co-author of Claes Oldenburg – Coosje van Bruggen. The symbolic shell-shaped stele was installed near the Chongchekhon River, which was hidden under a concrete highway for several decades. In 2006, the city of Seoul decided to free part of the river from the road and turn this place into a green park with a recreation area. The elegant blue-pink shell, glowing from the inside, is located near the site where the river begins under the concrete building. It symbolizes the unity of opposites, the harmony of man and nature.
