Waterpaint on canvas.
Lucio Fontana created his first paintings with cuts on abstract canvases with coloured figures, but after a while, he started working on completely monochrome canvases. This change might have occurred under the influence of the work of contemporary artist Yves Klein, who used pure bright shades, especially blue, to create his works. Fontana, as usual, cut a canvas with a straight vertical line using a very sharp blade, so that it resembles a surgical incision. On the reverse side of the picture, the artist attached dark matter, which makes the viewer feel like he is looking through a narrow gap into a dark room or some other unknown and mysterious space.
