Spatial Concept (End of God)

author

Lucio Fontana

description

Private collection.

Acrylic, copper shavings, canvas.

The artist began to create pictures in the shape of an egg in the late period of his work. In these works, he used his famous “holes” pierced with a knife, as well as various materials with an unusual structure that creates interesting effects on the surface of the canvas. Fontana’s work of 1963 was covered with pink paint and pigment with copper shavings on top, which gave the surface an unusual iridescent property. The artist covered the holes on the reverse side with black material, making the picture look like a cosmic landscape, with galaxies and constellations twisting in spirals and directed to infinity.
