Sawdust carriers

author

Alexander Bogomazov

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: the National Museum of Art, Kiev (Ukraine).

One of the artist’s last paintings was created according to his theory of spectralism using cubism and futurism techniques. The gray-haired and gray-bearded old man and his female companion are strolling along the deserted street (early morning, even the bakery is still closed). Both have large and heavy boxes filled with fresh sawdust behind them. The artist used a contrasting palette: orange and pink light fell on the houses and part of the street, and the shadows are made up of blue and blue triangles. A graphic version of this plot is at the New York Museum of Modern Art.
