Sailors

author

Gösta Adrian-Nilsson

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Trelleborg Art Museum (Sweden).

Arriving in Stockholm after visiting Berlin, the artist again started depicting sailors. According to art experts, it is hard to consider these images as the evidence of the author’s homosexual orientation, as the criticism of those years did. The plots are lacking in the intimate, sensual background of an erotic image. Pictures with sailors are more like compelling, expression-rich compositions, where the cubic forms, the colouristic language of the expressionists and the desire to convey modernity and the dynamics of the course of life are organically intertwined.
