Portrait of writer M. Sholokhov

author

Yevgeny Vuchetich

description

Mediums: marble.
Location: The State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg (Russia).

Vuchetich worked on the bust of the writer in Rostov, where Sholokhov came to meet with voters. The sculptor wrote, “We met with Mikhail Alexandrovich at the hotel, and he jokingly said, “If you decided to immortalize, let’s see what happens.” It was difficult to work because there were many people with whom Sholokhov talked for a long time. Work on the sketches continued for several evenings and nights. The portrait turned out to be warm and friendly. Permanently messed hair, soft half-smile, squint and thoughtfulness in the look. The gypsum original is in the collection of the M. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve, where it was transferred by his widow Maria Petrovna in 1985.
