Portrait of the Artist (self-portrait)

author

Vladimir Tatlin

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: private collection.

According to the canons of the Russian avant-garde, he created a picture called either a portrait of an artist, or a painter, or even a self-portrait. The actor of Tatlin is in a blue, good-quality suit, wide-brimmed hat and a wide tie (an indispensable accessory of intellectuals) are exactly the same as fashion requires. All the clothes, like the face and the whole background, are made up of irregular rounded shapes that harmoniously repeat each other. The model’s face is just a focused-serious face of a man who thinks before starting to work.
