description

Mediums: tempera, cardboard.
Location: the private collection of the Pavlychko family (Ukraine).

Briefly about the painting:

The artist painted portraits of both daughters of his friend, Ukrainian poet and politician Dmitry Pavlychko; he said about this image, “This is my best female portrait. This is a superable portrait! The other daughter has a pretty face, but not an image, but Solomia is a deep image. They even told me that I had foreseen her fate … ” The 22-year-old student, future literary critic, translator, founder of the Kiev publishing house «Osnova» is depicted in a frame of fantastic flowers and birds. The photographic accuracy in the depiction of her facial features is combined with the transfer of the deep inner world of the girl – it is in her slightly sad smile and in the understanding look of blue eyes. Solomiya died at the age of 42 from a ridiculous common accident.
