author

Ivan Marchuk

description

Mediums: tempera, cardboard.
Location: private collection.

Briefly about the painting:

The portrait of the professor of the Lviv Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts, a post-impressionist artist, is one of the very few works of this genre created in the early period of Marchuk’s creative career. Subsequently, Marchuk did not depict people (he said that he was not interested in the genre), but said about this work with great accuracy of self-esteem, “I have reached the heights of Hyperrealism. So, I have already depicted everything so well that every vein, wrinkle and texture of the skin is visible!” In the future, genre paintings with figures and faces of people are conditional and very stylized images, offering the viewer symbolism and philosophical reflections.
