Portrait of Natalia Goncharova and Mikhail Larionov

author

Aleksei Morgunov

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: the collection of the Chicago Art Institute (the USA).

The author painted the pair portrait of the innovative artists as a plot scene with the inclusion of a still life. The background for the figures of Goncharova and Larionov is their scenographic work. Despite the conventionality of the image, all the artist’s contemporaries noted that, except for certain similarities, the author accurately depicted the characteristic features of the models – the calm dignity of Natalia and the constant concern of Mikhail. The painting created in a post-impressionist style with elements of “Russian Cezannism” was first shown at the Exhibition of paintings of the society of artists “Jack of Diamonds”.
