Pan-Pan Dance at Monico

author

Gino Severini

description

One of the most famous works of the artist, which has become a symbol of Italian Futurism. In the early 10s, Severini mostly lived in Paris. The nightlife and the rhythm of the big city was the focus of the artist in many works, including the “Dance in Monico”, where people are dancing, sitting at the table and having unlimited fun. It is noteworthy that the artist depicted himself among the café visitors; he is sitting at a table and looking directly into the eyes of the viewer. The fate of the canvas was unusual: its original version was destroyed during the Second World War, but the artist painted it again in 1959-60, relying only on his memory and several preserved photographs.
