description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Ulyanovsk Art Museum named after A. Plastova (Russia).

In the painting of Cubo-futurists, as the phrase itself declares, two opposite art concepts are combined: the canon of the analytically shifted construction of Cubism and the spatial and temporal dynamism of Futurism. Everything is built in this way in the picture “Newspaper” – the space is divided into regular but shifted figures, and the movement is expressed by a general shape resembling a wheel, as well as by scattered letters. Mikhail Menkov uses dim and harmonious colour schemes, characteristic of the works of Picasso, Braque, Gris and other Cubists. The work was selected for a large retrospective show “Following the Trail of 0.10 – the Last Futuristic Exhibition of Painting”, organized in Basel (Switzerland, 2015).
