One of the most famous paintings of the master, which has become a symbol of the whole style of “metaphysical painting.” A girl with a hoop runs along a diagonal-lit street that intersects diagonally with a deep shadow. While playing, she approaches a strange shadow cast by a person, or a statue blocked by a building. A deserted street and something unknown hidden in the shadows cause a feeling of hidden threat and danger. The unusual composition of the picture is also noteworthy; here the objects have different perspective designs, which are incompatible with each other but placed in the same plane.
