description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: private collection.

The hustle and bustle of the market reflects the everyday life of ordinary Filipinos. To convey the special atmosphere of a crowded place, the author used contrasting orange and blue colours that cover each other and create a feeling of continuous movement and festive rainbow. The figures of sellers and buyers are simplified as much as possible, and the plane of the picture is almost entirely filled with human figures stacked on top of each other. In this work, the artist was able to masterfully combine abstract painting methods with the realism of the depicted objects – fish, fruits, vegetables. The girl’s sorrowful face in the foreground of the canvas contrasts with the general business mood.
