Look, Mickey

author

Roy Fox Lichtenstein

description

Private collection.

Oil on canvas.

The first work of Roy Lichtenstein from a series of paintings based on comics. The idea to create a work in this style came to the artist spontaneously when his little son asked him to paint a picture from his favorite Mickey Mouse comic strip. Taking a sketch from a magazine, Lichtenstein enlarged it, modified it a bit, and placed it on a canvas of almost square shape. The resulting image was so adored by the artist that became the basis for his subsequent works, which soon became popular worldwide.
