description

Mediums: tempera, pastel, cardboard.
Location: The Art Museum of Winterthur (Switzerland).

By the beginning of the 1950s, the artist’s palette became brighter, and the theme of his work became more cheerful. A decorative, exotic for Europeans bird in a small work is rather fabulous than conveying the appearance of a real hummingbird. However, the characteristic details of the bird are perfectly depicted, as well as the main feature of the inhabitant of the tropics – the unceasing movement of its bright wings. Rounded movements are expressed using several multi-colored Mobius stripes – this is the evidence of Otto Tschumi’s acquaintance with the art of French representatives of Orphism.
