The dead boat

author

Otto Tschumi

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Kunstmuseum Solothurn (Switzerland).

Wrecked or simply broken and abandoned ships and boats were one of the frequent topics of the post-war years of the artist’s creative career. The distorted details look even sadder as the master depicted them against the background of the serene blue sky. The work is close in style and color to the art of Salvador Dali, whom the Swiss artist met in Paris. The style of the great Spaniard can be distinctly seen in softly flowing forms, accurate neat lines and outlines of details of objects and the construction of the surrounding space.
